ПЕРСПЕКТИВИ КРИПТОВАЛЮТ: ПРО ЩО ГОВОРИТЬ ПАЛІТРА АЛЬТКОЇНІВ

Анотація

У статті на основі аналізу причин стрімкого падіння цінності криптовалют у 2018 р. і особливостей 17 альткоїнів з найбільшою ринковою капіталізацією зроблено висновки про вектори розвитку криптовалют і перспективи цього феномену. Виявлено вектори розвитку криптовалют: 1) валюти платформ для створення і функціонування децентралізованих додатків (Ethereum та альтернативні платформи: Eos (позиціонується як швидша, простіша, дешевша); Cardano (для фінансових додатків, що використовуються у щоденній діяльності); Neo (валюта платформи, дружньої до регуляторів (зокрема, китайських); Ehereum Classic – більш децентралізована, з більш строгою незворотністю транзакцій, ніж у Ethereum); 2) платформи для більш ефективних транскордонних платежів (Ripple та більш децентралізована альтернатива – Stellar); 3) вирішення технічних проблем біткоїна (Litecoin – більш зручна для дрібних трансакцій, Bitcoin Cash – альтернативне вирішення проблеми масштабування трансакцій); 4) полегшення торгівлі криптовалютами і вирішення проблеми їхньої волатильності – Tether; 5) внутрішні валюти криптовалютних бірж (Binance Coin); 6) збільшення анонімності трансакцій: Monero, Dash; 7) забезпечення транзакцій в Інтернеті Речей – IOTA; 8) універсальна валюта для віртуальних розваг – TRON. Обґрунтовано гіпотезу, що, не впоравшись з амбітною роллю альтернативи суверенним грошам ієрархічної природи, криптовалюти частково зійдуть до ролі віртуальних валют для локальних віртуальних просторів, а частково перенесуть частину своїх властивостей у традиційні платіжні системи, аби полегшити, скажімо, транскордонні транзакції. Загалом, процес поширення криптовалют синхронізується з процесом поширення інформаційно-мережевої економіки.

PROSPECTS OF CRYPTOCURRENCIES: WHAT DOES ALTCOINS PALETTE TELL US

Summary

Based on the analysis of the reasons for the deep fall of cryptocurrencies in 2018 and the features of 17 altcoins with the largest market capitalization, conclusions were drawn about the vectors of the development and the prospects of cryptocurrencies.
The value of fiat money is based on the state framework, market order, informal institutions, while central bank and government are directly responsible for it. What alternative cryptocurrencies offer to this system? First, various consensus mechanisms for networks, none of which, though, is protected against abuse. This is at least an attempt to develop an alternative to a centralized payment system. Secondly, the cryptocurrency exchanges, where their market value is determined, and the nature of these institutions is far from being decentralized - they are centralized structures, opaque, insufficiently protected and in many cases unregulated. Thirdly, the unlimited supply of cryptocurrency, where the reputation of even the most stable can be undermined by forking. The network and hierarchy are constantly interconverting: only a few new links between nodes can turn the hierarchy into a network and vice versa - anarchy can easily come to totalitarian hierarchy. Now we can observe centralization of the network payment systems: due to the problem of scaling, leading to the formation of large mining pools, due to the need for volitional decisions in emergency situations and due to centralization of the cryptocurrencies trading on the cryptocurrency exchanges. It is a forced centralization, not forged by the millennial history, therefore less efficient than in the system of fiat currencies. Failing to carry out an ambitious mission of replacing fiat currencies, cryptocurrencies continue to evolve in the following areas: 1) currencies of platforms for the establishment and operation of decentralized applications (Ethereum and alternative platforms: Eos (declared as faster, simpler, cheaper); Cardano (for financial applications used in daily activities); Neo (cryptocurrency for platform friendly to Chines regulators, Ehereum Classic - more decentralized, with more rigorously irreversible transactions than Ethereum); 2) platforms for more efficient cross-border payments (Ripple and more decentralized alternative - Stellar); 3) solution of bitcoin technical problems (Litecoin - more convenient for small transactions, Bitcoin Cash - an alternative solution for the problem of scaling transactions); 4) solving the volatility problem and facilitating exchange of cryptocurrencies - Tether; 5) domestic currencies of cryptocurrency exchanges (Binance Coin); 6) increasing the anonymity of transactions: Monero, Dash; 7) providing transactions in the Internet of Things - IOTA; 8) universal currency for virtual entertainment - TRON. So failing to supersede sovereign hierarchical money, cryptocurrencies will develop as a virtual currencies for local virtual spaces, and transfer some of its properties to traditional payment systems in order to facilitate, say, cross-border transactions. In general, the process of spreading cryptocurrencies will be synchronized with the development of the information and network economy.
